The role

The role of the Head of Data Governance and Insights is to establish a strong data operation in support of the business, embed a data culture and responsibilities of data management across the business and to build a strong Analytics capability for all users.

 

The Head of Data Governance and Insights will develop the operating model across the business defining roles and responsibilities to create analytical outcomes that support business strategy goals and continuously monitor and resolve data quality topics ensuring our data is fit for purpose. Through the Data Insights operating model, you will champion the analytics agenda across the business, ensuring a consistent approach in management reporting, embedding insights into processes and meet cost improvements through more efficient use of data.

Key accountabilities

Strategy and Planning

  • Set and regularly update the enterprise data strategy and organisational model in close association with the Group Data & Anaytics Leadership team
  • Define the agile framework and processes enabling every function to turn requirements and idea’s into insights that support data based decisions
  • Create a data maturity framework which allows us to measure the data maturity across each business function,
  • Define, manage, and ensure an adequate information trust model by embedding controls around the quality of analytical outcomes and measuring the value add to the business
  • Development and monitoring of data quality metrics and responsibility for directing the appropriate business area in the remediation of data quality issues
  • Develop and maintain controls on data quality, interoperability, and sources to effectively manage corporate risk associated with the use of data and analytics
  • Organize and chair a analytics governance chapter that meets regularly with a focus on priorities and capabilities across the value chain to improve our data quality and enhance our ability to make use of insights in decision making
  • Co-ordinate alignment across the business’s data priorities
  • To develop and maintain strong operational and strategic relationships with key internal customers within the business

Policy, Process and Procedures

  • Ensure business insights derived from accurate data are consistent and representative of the true state of the business
  • Overseeing and coordinating with teams across the business that develop and publish insights supporting decisions made by users in each function
  • Identify where derived insights can make a step change in insurance performance – risk management, claims, fraud etc. and execute to make that change happen.
  • Build an Analytics capability, raising the skills required to curate insights from data in support of improving operational performance or in supporting clients.
  • Institute a programmatic approach for enterprise wide data governance to identify, prioritize and execute the data quality and analytic initiatives with clear line of sight to enterprise strategies and business outcomes
  • Work with the business, clients, and other 3rd parties to identify key data requirements to drive the analytics agenda

Skills & experience

Knowledge And Experience

  • A proven conceptual and strategic thinker who is capable of distilling, packaging, and presenting complex information in a clear, concise, and compelling manner
  • Significant experience in embedding data management mindset within the business introducing responsibilities for enhancing our data maturity in each function.
  • Exposure to all functional disciplines with the ability to use the knowledge from these functions effectively in identifying data and analytics needs.
  • Thorough understanding of data mining and analytics technology systems including but not limited to: RDBMS, reporting tools, Microsoft Azure.
  • Extensive knowledge in data storytelling, bring able to quickly derive insights from data
  • Understanding of data governance discipline, processes, concepts and best practices.
  • Sound knowledge of problem analysis, structure analysis, and design techniques.
  • Strong understanding of insurance as a business and what insights are needed to effectively steer across the value chain
  • Business and financial awareness of the impact of Service Levels and any associated failures.
  • Specific professional qualifications (and broad business qualifications) at the level of degree or equivalent.
  • Qualified within own personal discipline, with extensive post-qualification work experience to include:
  • Working with large third-party vendors/ external suppliers.
  • Managing relationships with internal business customers at a senior level.
  • Strong track record of technology delivery.
  • Managing cross functional teams and matrix management.
  • Interpreting business strategy and translating this into IT strategy.
