The Head of Product plays an important part in the overall strategy for the Insurance organisation.
We can share more details with you, but a quick summary would see your role looking outwards, engaging with commercial owners across the business, understanding our customer experience and then translating this vision into tangible, prioritised capabilities. You will develop, own, and manage the product roadmaps. Additionally, as this is a recently created function, you will relish the chance to expand, execute and take up ownership of the team, helping develop our business and capabilities further.
You will likely have a data-driven approach so we can provide insight for better decision-making. You will work closely with colleagues across engineering and delivery teams, and inspire and motivate your team of Product Owners, Product Specialists, and Solutions Analysts, to deliver against the business agenda.
In more detail, the Head of Product satisfies several critical activities:
- Product architecture and product constructs – working closely with commercial and compliance teams to ensure a companywide product structure is developed, maintained, and guides commercial decisions
- Product roadmaps – outlining the plans for development, enhancement, and ongoing management of product features against a timeline
- Product specification – defining what is needed for product features, working closely to specify what is needed for customer and partner-facing components, core functional and non-functional requirements, and integration, data, and reporting needs
- Product acceptance and take-up – working closely with delivery and engineering teams to ensure that products meet the specification and aligning with stakeholders across the functions to ensure that the products are deployed and effective in the market.
Through these activities, the role will ensure a strong link between commercial team propositions and the launch and management of products within a regulated entity, to the development of features and capabilities within the technology platforms supporting them. Critically, the Head of Product will have a significant role in maximizing the value produced by the team, and the broader organisation.
Principally, the role is accountable for providing the leadership of the product function and competency area; including people leadership for product owners, analysts, and product management; thought leadership for product strategy, product management, and product development across the Insurance business and change leadership to link stakeholders to the products and their development and lifecycle.
Some of the knowledge, skills, and experience we are looking for, or to be strong in this role are shown below, however, if you think you have other skills, or don’t have all of these, but feel you have the right experience and attitude to be good in this role, let us know:

- Deep experience in creating customer propositions and product roadmaps, ideally across multiple business insurance lines and in different organisations
- Strong product owner experience with expertise in backlog management and prioritisation, system demos, user story, feature and epic definition including acceptance criteria management
- Data-centric product capability development, illustrating how we can go from dispersed, disjointed data management to robust operational data solutions through to insight-led business intelligence.
- Customer-centric experience, covering customer and user experience, customer journey mapping and design thinking
- Solid experience in transforming processes, ways of working and continuous improvement
- Direct team recruitment, development, and people management expertise, with a servant-leader mindset to help build and grow talent across the organisation
- Collaborative stakeholder skills to proactively engage and bring together process, functional and commercial owners to inform, transform and delight
- Financial acumen to build and decide business case activities to drive business value-based outcomes, as well as to measure outcomes
- Experience working with a variety of delivery models including Scrum, Kanban, waterfall etc
- Day-to-day experience working with engineering development and support teams to determine solutions, architecture prioritisation and release-to-run planning
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills
