To develop, implement and promote Ansvar’s underwriting risk appetite, rating, philosophy and authority, through the successful management of a variety of underwriting functions to maximize performance and achieve Ansvar’s strategic objectives.
Key Accountabilities:
- Act as part of Ansvar UK’s Leadership team with accountability for delivering the underwriting strategy.
- Lead on the contextualisation of underwriting performance as part of portfolio optimisation, identifying actions to deliver strategic objectives.
- Shape and agree Ansvar’s underwriting authority with group underwriting, cascading down into appropriate personal authorities so as to match with an individual’s proven capability in such a way as to enable the business.
- Manage the development and performance of underwriters to ensure the delivery of a high standard and efficient service and the achievement of Ansvar’s strategic objectives.
- Lead, direct, motivate and develop the Policy Wordings, Technical Training, Audit and Compliance, Systems Liaison, and Reinsurance to ensure the achievement of corporate underwriting objectives and service standards
- Provide leadership for the development of new products, and review and maintain all products and literature to comply with POG for the purpose of providing market leading products.
- Research and maintain an awareness of market conditions, practice and legislation, making appropriate recommendations by identifying opportunities in order to maximize business performance.
- Understand and operate within regulatory framework and identify and escalate any risks to the business owning resolution
- Identify and conduct an audit programme internally and externally with our delegated authority brokers, to ensure best underwriting and regulatory practice is followed, identifying areas for performance improvement and delivering training and/or coaching when required.
- Identify, record and resolve complaints in line with company policy, recording breaches when identified.
- Identify and actions changes to underwriting processes and practice to effect continual improvement in both operational and technical excellence.
- Attend and contribute to the groups centres of excellence, taking away intelligence to improve Ansvar’s business and sharing best practice
- Take a lead role in identifying leading and lagging indicators from regular discussions with claims, risk service and group underwriting effective changes to underwriting practices and underwriting risk appetite to improve the business.
- Manage partner broker relationships from an underwriting perspective, ensuring underwriting technical excellence and great customer service
Skills and experience:
- ACII qualified desirable
- Proven track record of managing technical underwriting staff
- Experience of influencing senior stakeholders within underwriting and wider business areas
