A national Latent Defect Insurance Broker seeks a Latent Defect / IBG Underwriter to join their team in the Midlands on a permanent, full-time basis. Strong understanding of underwriting principles is sought, preferably in a construction / property context. Starting salary £40,000+, competitive bonus structure.
Latent Defect / IBG Underwriter responsibilities:
- Evaluate and authorise risks through the technical underwriting and final underwriting stages up to a reinstatement value of £5,000,000; new and mid-term adjustments;
- Liaise with their broker panel and surveying team across all aspects of risk underwriting;
- Following completion of the application, pre-underwriting and technical underwriting stages, an underwriting decision can be made through the final underwriting stage by either;
- Highlight special considerations; where the risk is, additional costs for surveys, etc;
- Underwrite risks up to binding authority limit of £5,000,000;
- Liaise with account executives to create full understanding of the business proposed;
- Support ongoing training and account handler understanding;
- Assist the underwriting manager in all aspects of the daily operation and performance of the department;
- Interpret any previous narrative added previously and together with all Information relevant to the risk;
- Refer risks above £5,000,000 to insurer panel.
Underwriter requirements:
- Experience of underwriting, customer service and risk analysis skills
- CII part or fully qualified, or progressing towards
- Knowledge of relevant market conditions preferred
- Sound understanding of the general insurance market
- Strong decision making ability
