Within the Personal Lines business unit, you will be responsible for setting underwriting appetite and for the prudent underwriting of quality business in line with our strategy and risk appetite, facilitating maximum return of profit while maintaining our reputation and integrity, demonstrating care for customers and respect for the regulatory obligations of the company.
You will submit annual business plans, supervise the portfolio and take corrective measures where necessary to ensure long term profitability.
Until such time as the Head of Regional P&C role is split out into a position reporting into the Technical Director, you will provide management, direction and in conjunction with the Head of Portfolio Underwriting, agree underwriting appetite.
As part of portfolio supervision, you’ll ensure there are robust underwriting risk controls and mitigations and supervise the peer review process in place taking corrective actions as necessary.
You will guide members of your team, continuously developing the skill set required to support the underwriting appetite and the business plans.
You will underwrite and manage new (and renewal) business in accordance with Underwriting business plan with full awareness of own underwriting limits as set out in the Underwriting Authority. This will involve exercising judgement in all underwriting matters including the oversight of the administration of binders.
You will attend MRSI UK Ltd Group Committees and Sub Committees as required. You will also serve on external committees to raise the profile of the Personal Lines Team.
You will service existing contracts and make amendments in line with the company’s underwriting philosophy.
You will conduct and develop effective relationships with both Brokers and key clients, to both strengthen existing trading relationships and you will work closely with the Commercial Team to renew key accounts and secure new business that falls within the Underwriting business plan.
You will review on a continuous basis, the practices and procedures of the Personal Lines Underwriting teams to ensure they meet the business’s emerging needs and identify where improvements may be made.

Strategy
You will provide support and advise the Technical Director in relation to all Personal Lines business critical initiatives and management issues.
You will collaborate with Senior Management colleagues to implement the organisational vision, operational requirements and direction in line with the overarching strategy
In collaboration with the Technical Director, you will develop positive and relevant business strategies and plans that ensure alignment with short-term and long-term objectives for the Personal Lines Team.
In collaboration with the Commercial Director and the Commercial Team, you will support Broker Development and together develop positive and relevant business strategies and plans that ensure alignment with short-term and long-term objectives for the Personal Lines Team.
Measures & controls
You will supervise Personal Lines performance against targets and prepare detailed reports, both current and forecasting
You will collaborate closely with colleagues ensuring company procedures and systems are followed and maintained as per procedures and compliance manuals.
You will translate agreed strategy and budgets into impactful goals for performance growth and operational planning and communicate to your Underwriting Managers.
You will ensure best practice principles are evident in all areas of responsibilities within MRSI UK Ltd.
You will allocate management responsibilities in a clear and concise manner so as to meet strategic, business and regulatory requirements and to ensure there is a sound reporting structure.
You will ensure there are effective systems and internal controls within MRSI UK Ltd ensuring the complete, accurate and timely recording of all relevant and significant information and data (MI information).
You will ensure effective framework of meetings, reporting and discussions is in place to optimally lead employees.
You will drive forward good conduct for the business to deliver the best outcomes for customers / policyholders
You will understand all appropriate lines of escalation and the responsibilities of the PCRSG, UCSC, ExCo and Board for Conduct Risk
Leadership & Management You will lead, manage and develop employees within the Personal Lines Team to ensure profitable, accurate and efficient underwriting meeting the targets of the business plan and supporting the growth plans of MRSI UK Ltd.
You will recruit and empower employees to implement the agreed strategy, to deliver results and to fulfil operational and regulatory requirements.
