Head of PMO Management G14 FTC for 12 months

Job Role

The Head of Portfolio Management role exists to support the Head of Change in providing high quality reporting, governance, oversight of a portfolio of results-driven business change across the enterprise.

This critical role will work collaboratively with stakeholders across the business to build and operate a centralised Change capability that is supported by a change delivery framework that is practical and consistently applied.

The role holder will take the lead in change governance forums and will be accountable to the Change Director for identifying and managing the mitigation of portfolio level risks and resolution of portfolio level issues.

They will also support the business in the translation of business plans into a portfolio of programmes and projects that will result in delivering business strategy and critical business outcomes.

Key Outputs

  • Design, deliver and implement a practical and fit-for-purpose Change Framework and approach, applied across the enterprise
    • Creating an effective framework that supports and coordinates the planning process, monitoring, tracking and reporting on business goals and key indicators
    • Provides enterprise-wide transparency and oversight ensuring implementation of an aligned, effective, and efficient process to all entities
  • Facilitates and coordinates the efforts of senior leadership toward the establishment of an enterprise-wide Change Catalogue, enabling complete transparency of planned change across the enterprise.
    • Creating an effective process and cadence to highlight conflicts, alignment issues, risk considerations
    • Ensuring an appropriate cadence to timely coordination and creation of an enterprise-wide Change & providing recommendations & rationale as to the suggested status of such changes; Start, Stop, Continue activity
  • Implement process improvements & increase efficiency across the Project Management function, whilst maintaining a collaborative team environment; including but not limited to Reporting, Budget Planning – Forecasting – Tracking, Resource & Capacity Management
  • Direct the creation, maintenance & communication of the required Change portfolio documentation and artefacts catalogue
  • Responsible for the governance & oversight of programmes and projects and ensuring reporting processes are in line with best practice
  • Responsible for coordination, oversight and delivery of Business Change Audit Plan and resulting actions and internal measurement and tracking of Change Maturity Score
  • Identify and drive digitalization and identify further improvements to improve process efficiency and outcomes
  • Is a Member of Senior Leadership Community; acting as a deputy for the Director of Change and is a key representative of the Change team ensuring MIB Promises are ‘lived’ within the team

Qualifications and Education

Skills and Knowledge

  • Demonstrable experience in the insurance industry in Portfolio Management
  • Extensive experience at leading major projects and programmes
  • Demonstrable experience in managing “upward” in senior leadership team
  • Extensive experience of implementing process improvements across a Project Management function
  • Demonstrable understanding of different delivery methodologies including Agile and Waterfall
  • Exceptional leadership skills, with the ability to develop and communicate the portfolio objectives, and maintain alignment with business strategy
  • Experience of contributing to and developing ISS Strategies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain and “sell” the portfolio goals and objectives to the business and to technical leadership
  • Experience of leading, managing and developing a team, maintaining a collaborative and constructive working environment within a department and across the organisation
  • Strong business acumen, a curiosity to understand and challenge how we work and how we drive opportunities in the future
  • Excellent analytical, conceptual strategic planning and execution skills. Familiarity with financial analysis and associated reporting
  • Familiarity with the use of reporting tools to monitor portfolio activities and analyses portfolio performance
  • Preferred: A portfolio management qualification (MOP) or as part of a wider qualification (P3M3 or MSP)
  • Experience of budget management and control (if this role dictates this)
  • The ability to manage complex stakeholders and partnering relationships
  • Desirable: Management of Risk (MOR) qualification
  • Familiarity with at least one delivery methodology or framework, such as:
    • Agile methodologies
    • PRINCE2
  • Managing Successful Programmes (MSP innovation frameworks and approaches)

Salary £75,000
35 hours per week Monday to Friday
£320 (before tax) start up allowance
