(Senior) Director, EMEA Insurance Performance Improvement

Department: Financial Services Improvement (FSI):
This role sits within the FSI team at Alvarez and Marsal in London. We work with clients across the EMEA FS space and focus on banks, private equity investors, regulatory authorities, insurers, wealth and asset managers and other specialised FS firms.
Through our FSI practice, we provide assistance to FS institutions that are underperforming or in need of a reorganisation / restructuring. Working directly with our client’s senior leadership, A&M’s involvement reassures all stakeholders that the company is taking important steps to address its problems and to maximise its value.

Purpose of the role:
An opportunity exists for an EMEA Insurance consultant (Director or Senior Director level) based out of our London office (with potential for UK wide base).
Excited by the challenges that the EMEA Insurance sector faces in today’s challenging market conditions, the successful hire will be experienced in delivering solutions that address Insurance companies critical issues.
The successful appointee will work with our existing team to build the profile and reputation of A&M in the Performance Improvement (PI) space in Insurance across Europe. Building on the success of the A&M brand, the successful candidate will bring unrivalled experience from both operational and consulting roles in the Insurance sector.
Key purpose of the role:
  • Utilise your deep knowledge of clients in the Insurance sector (including Life, Pensions, GI and Asset and Wealth Management)
  • Develop deep strategic relationships across all areas of A&M, Insurance clients and delivery partners
  • Support setting the strategy and vision for the Insurance PI propositions; reflecting client demand across the A&M network
  • Define and deliver the vision for a scaled PI Insurance delivery team, underpinned by Technology and data driven insight
  • Maximise the potential for utilising repeatable technology and operations solutions to support high quality client outcomes
  • Act as an escalation route for resolution of risk across projects and engagement with key stakeholders
  • Create a culture of continuous improvement across the A&M PI Insurance team
The preferred candidate will support the development and execute a specific strategy focused on target clients and distinctive go-to-market propositions. They will reflect the operational distinctiveness that is A&M; a business savvy, solution focused business entrepreneur determined to make a difference and not afraid to challenge the status-quo.
Key responsibilities:
Specifically, the candidate will be responsible for:
  • Acting as an execution team leader for PI services to the Insurance industry;
  • Supporting the development of a robust yet flexible plan to generate deal flow and generate sustained repeat business;
  • Lead transformation programs that improve the business of today as well as enable the business of tomorrow;
  • Coordinating with the broader European FS A&M team, developing a joined up go to market, leading international project teams, as well as developing the brand;
  • Advise clients on problem areas recommending solutions and providing technical advice;
  • Interpret risks, market changes and regulation and present it in a clear and meaningful way around how this could impact strategy, revenue streams or wider business issues;
  • Work closely with senior stakeholders in the clients’ business and with professionals from leading financial institutions.
Requirements for this position:
The preferred candidate for this appointment will be a self-starter with entrepreneurial flair. He/she will be comfortable working independently as well as part of a high performing team. Critically, they will bring a network of client contacts gained through a successful track record of executing complex PI projects.
Specifically, the successful candidate will have:
  • Successful track record within a well-established consulting outfit – from a top tier strategy firm, a leading specialist and/or niche advisory firm or ‘Big 4’ consultancy;
  • Well established leadership experience, with the above outlined advisory experience. Ideally, the successful candidate will also have a demonstrable track record within the Insurance market, including line management experience, probably in earlier career;
  • Will be an expect in the Insurance and/or Wealth Management space in Performance Improvement with strong expertise both in merger integration and cost take out;
  • Demonstrable track record in converting business contacts and leads into sustainable, profitable revenue streams;
  • Bring experience of managing teams and working across multiple locations in Europe (and ideally globally), including third-party and in-house teams;
  • Proven evidence of delivering state of the art solutions to ever-evolving and often unpredictable business issues;
  • Any additional European language skills would be highly desirable;
